Recycled Magazine Placemats

jesswess asked:

So, this is more about the DIY than the storage, but I was wondering if you found any good recycled magazine placemat (like these: http://www.organicstyle.com/p_805/Eco-Friendly/Garden/Home/magazine-placemats.html) instructions?

While I couldn’t find instructions for one of these, as soon as I saw it, it reminded me of the twig/bambook coasters and placemats I’ve seen around. So I googled twig coasters and found these at Martha Stewart with instructions.

From the Martha Stewart website “These coasters look like rafts afloat a tabletop. For each coaster, gather 22 small, straight twigs, and trim them to a length of 5 inches. Double a length of waxed twine, loop center an inch from the end of first twig, and tie once. Tie twine around remaining twigs, one by one. Tie knot at end; cut twine close to knot. Repeat on other side.”

I would suspect that to make the magazine version, you just roll your pages nice and tight, seal them somehow (Maybe Mod Podge) and then tie them like the above coasters.

Hope that helps! Cheers,M.

Eaves trough garden via Container Gardening Options for Small Spaces (Slideshow) : TreeHugger
I think this is brilliant. Not necessarily the cheapest solution (Unless you are fortunate enough to have some laying around or salvage some.) to minimal square footage but it is both and awesome solution and awesome to look at.

I rarely have useful little storage pieces like tackle boxes laying around but for those of you who do, this is awesome. If I had one to make I would make it a succulent garden. Clicking the link takes you to a full tutorial to make a successful tackle box planter.

Cases for War: Toy Soldiers by Daniel Love’s Objects Slinging Nuclear Shelving Units via Dornob
This is just incredible. Beautiful in both it’s form and function but lets face it, it’s form is amazing.
From the artist “Driven by the recent crisis of certain countries who got very uptight over issues of being asked to disarm their missile test launched, their alarming action to remain hostile and persistent in their belief had stirred me to create this part of a furniture combination to depict their behavioral trait, a bookshelf with their golden army, strategically placed underneath, to uphold and to protect their ultimate plans, frozen in time for all to see.”

Bookwave Bookcase Beige by Ilio
Made of felt and stainless steel this soft sculpture shelve can be both a curtain and a book shelf. With some patience and a sewing machine I think this is very DIYable. And @ £723 it is definitely worth a try!

Mario Furniture via Neatorama
This Maria furniture is an amazing reader submission to Neatorama. Don’t you love the attention to detail? As much as I love the wall boxes I think my favourite piece is the warp tube end table. I encourage you to click th link and have a look at some great photos. There is also a faux game boy screen clock and just for giggle an amazing looking home built light saber. (All pieces were built by reader’s girlfriend Judith.)

Total DIY potential here. Vintage (or aged to look vintage) clamp plus a couple wall brackets and ba-da-boom-ba-da-bing you have a little shelf that can hold a lot.
