Storage Solutions : Nail Polish

Hands down the most frequent question I get is “Can you help me store my nail polish. I have more than the average girl.” to which I have yet to reply. There are just so many options I wasn’t sure where to start. I think maybe I should have just posted them individually and tagged them appropriately but I guess I’ll do that from here on out. for now! I have found some serious options for you serious collectors out there.

We’ll start small with this adorable spice rack from The Speckled Dog. From what I understand, this is not very many but I think it is the perfect way to store more than I’ll ever own! (Unless red and clear coat count as a collection?)

Finding photo tutorials of nail polish storage was near impossible. I did find a lot of YouTube videos. I mean A LOT. So I grabbed a couple screen shots and I’ll share why I grabbed them. But, I think for those interested you can browse the what seemed like a bazillion videos for what you are looking for.

This DIY from fadingdreams300 is simply made from craft foam, florist foam and a shoe box lid. The tutorial is quite straight forward and the supplies are relatively inexpensive enough that you could make more units as your collection grows.

This DIY is from mschanelgurl. Although the screen shot is not awesome, the wall unit is. The maker used nails to create the shelves in a most clever way. Check out the video for a super simple tutorial.

Need more storage than some foam core board or spice racks will give you? Here are a few options which can be purchased from Amazon.

Guinevere of Anonymous Beautyholic uses this acrylic wall case which holds up to 96 bottles of polish and sells for $26.99 each.

This six shelf unit is from Avonstar and retails for £25.00.

For those of you with serious collections (In the high hundreds) I found a couple options that impressed the Storage geek in me so I hope they impress the Nail Polish Geeks in you.

I would never have pegged the Alex from Ikea as a killer polish storage solution but according to Christine @ Temptalia this baby easily holds over 700 bottles of polish. The bottom photo is just her China Glaze collection.

This collection belongs to Youtube user makeupJunkie101. Again, forgive the low quality screen shots. But, what I wanted to show you was the sheer amount of polish and tools she fit in two captains bed drawers. Essentially she keeps this collection under her bed but always at arms reach.

But this is the best part. To keep track of this giant (and ever expanding) collection she uses these bank polish wheels and an Excel spead sheet. I know, serious dedication. I like her. MakeupJunkie bought her wheels off of Ebay, but you can also get them in packs of ten from Amazon for $4.91.

There you go ladies, my favourite nail polish storage solutions and collections. Just a couple more things before you run off to geek out on your polish collections;

  • Searching for spice racks on Amazon will give you a bazillion ideas for minimal cost.
  • You can find just about every possible DIY option on Youtube if you are patient enough. I even saw one made out of Popsicle sticks!
  • Never underestimate the power of a clear hanging shoe organizer.
  • Regardless of what you come up with, you should always store your bottles in an upright position, do not be tempted to lay them down in low profile drawers.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for asking the great questions. I hope this has inspired you to find a solution that works for you! Cheers, Melissa.
