Get Those Guitars Off The Floor!

in-town asked you:

My boy friend (who is a professional guitarist) just moved in with me. Do you have any tips on how to store/showcase his many guitars?

Yes I do actually! After living with a heavy metal enthusiast/guitar player for a few years I learned what doesn’t work (Cases and stands). And recently came accross the niftiest piece of storage for guitars.

The Guitar Hanger (24.99 each) is every renting guitar player’s dream. No holes in the wall, no anchors to mess with just hang in your nearest closet. BUT! If you want to show off your collection (Serious pieces of art right?)…

You just use a closet organizing system (Wardrobe rack/mudroom organization) and voila! You can now show off your many guitars and keep your peripherals (Tab books, patch cords, picks, strings etc.) close by.

But, if you only have wall space to dedicate to your huitars there is always the wall mounted hanger.

This is from Fender, but it pretty representational off most wall mounted hangers. A quick search on Ebay finds you hangers at all kinds of price points(From five dollars to 50 dollars for multiples.).

How about this super fun hand bracket? It comes in all kinds of finishes and you can even get a skeleton or alien hand. Find them here at Powerhouse Music & Technology (40.00).

This is a homemade version from Instructables user Mr2monster. Fender players seem to love this DIY. I remember trying this and finding out that the brackets (Found at the hardware store.) Were not wide enough for his guitars (BC Rich, Washburn, Gibson) or any accoustic guitars but according to the comments on the website it works for “Squier and an Ibanez short scale bass” but not an Ibanez Artist guitar. So my advice is to measure your guitars before heading to the hardware store.

The John Pearse D’Angle Guitar Hanger (17.99).This nifty thing works just like stocking hangers at Christmas. You could use it on a nice shelf system on the wall all lined up in a pretty row.

Finally, I know I titles the post to “get Those Guitars Off The Floor” But really I just meant to showcase them without taking up the real estate floor stands take up. I found this one at Intructables by user arte.sano. I love how it can fit lots of electrics or a mix of acoustics and electrics.

And there you go! This post brought back a lot of memories, thanks for asking a great question, I hope I helped. Don’t forget to send me photos of your finished stuff! Cheers,M.

Expedit turned into a guitar amp enclosure via IKEA Hackers
Anybody who has ever owned even one guitar knows how awkward guitars, amps and paraphernalia can be to store. So, I thought this rolling cart was incredibly clever and sleek and practical too.

The downside in having an amp in a cart is that it kills a lot of the sound and messes up acoustics.
Bummer. But ok for low volume apartment use maybe?
